Horns Twist
A Horns ball screen that is immediately re-screened by the other big going back the other way. The first screen bends the defence one direction and the twist catches the on-ball defender still recovering, so the second screener rolls into an empty lane.

Coaching-Punkte
- 1 must use the first screen for real. One hard dribble to the right or the twist has nothing to catch.
- 4 sets the second screen going back the other way before 1 has picked up his dribble.
- 5 clears out to the far short corner so the second roller has an empty lane.
- 2 lifts to the weak slot on the first action and stays above the ball for the kick.
- The second roller is the shot. Everything before it is setup.
A twist is one ball screen answered immediately by another going the opposite way. The point is not the first screen. The point is that the on-ball defender has just worked to get over it, and now he has to do it again in the other direction with no rest.
5 screens to the right and rolls. 1 takes it right. Then 4 steps into a second screen sending 1 back left, 5 empties the lane, and 4 rolls into the space nobody is guarding.
The read
1 is reading one man: his own defender. If that defender is trailing after the first screen, the twist puts him two steps behind, and the pocket pass to 4 arrives before help can arrive.
The defense has a choice and both answers cost. Commit the big to the first screen and the second one is uncovered. Sit back on both and 1 has a free look from twenty feet.
Where it breaks
Two things, both fixable in a practice.
1 drifts too far right on the first screen and ends up on the sideline, where the twist has no room. Cap it at two dribbles.
5 hangs around the paint after his roll. He has to clear, and clear early, or he brings his own defender into the lane the twist was built to empty. Give him a spot, not an instruction: the far short corner, every time.
Konter
- Against a hedge on the first screen, the big is out of position for the twist and 4 rolls free.
- Against a switch, 1 rejects the twist and attacks the big who just switched onto him.
- If the low man steps up on the second roll, 2 is open in the slot above the ball.
