Horns Get
The point guard throws the ball to an elbow and sprints after his own pass to take it straight back on a handoff. The exchange works like a screen the defence cannot switch cleanly, and the big turns out of it into the roll.

Phase by phase
1Phase 1
Ball to the elbow, 1 chases his own pass out to the wing, 3 drops to the corner.
- 1 passes to 5
- 3 cuts to the right corner
- 1 cuts to the right wing
2Phase 2
5 dribbles him into the handoff, then turns and dives — 4 lifts behind the ball.
- 5 hands off to 1
- 1 dribbles to the right elbow
- 5 cuts to the rim
- 4 cuts to the left slot
3Phase 3
Roller first. If the big drops and takes it away, 4 is standing in the slot.
- 1 passes to 5
- 5 shoots
Teaching points
- 1 sprints after his own pass. A jog turns the handoff into a routine pass back.
- 5 dribbles into the handoff rather than standing still, so the exchange happens on the move.
- 3 drops to the corner on the entry and stays there. He is holding the low help.
- 5 turns and dives the instant the ball is gone. The handoff is the screen.
- 4 lifts behind the ball so there is a second big available if the roll is covered.
A get is the simplest way to put a guard downhill without calling a ball screen. He throws it, he chases it, he takes it straight back. By the time his defender has finished relaxing, the ball is moving the other way with a big in the path.
1 hits the elbow and sprints out to the wing. 5 meets him with the ball on the dribble, hands it to him, and turns into the roll.
How it is guarded
A handoff is guarded the same three ways as a screen: over, under, or switch. Each one gives you something.
Over means the defender is trailing and 1 is already turning the corner. Under means he is waiting on the other side, so 1 refuses the handoff and goes back the way he came. Switch puts a big on a guard twenty feet from the rim, which is a drive, not a problem.
Teaching it
The part players get wrong is the exchange itself. 5 must be moving toward 1, and 1 must run at 5’s outside shoulder, close enough to brush him. Two feet of daylight and the defender just walks through.
Tell 5 that he is not passing the ball. He is placing it, and then screening with his body on the follow-through.
Run it to both elbows. The right-side version gets a right-handed guard going to his strong hand; the left-side version is the one you need in March when they take the first one away.
Counters
- Against a switch on the handoff, 1 keeps the ball and attacks the big he just inherited.
- Against a defender who goes under the exchange, 1 refuses the handoff and drives the other way.
- If the big drops and takes the roll away, 4 is standing in the slot for the pass out.
